Asphodeline lutea (King's Spear, Yellow Asphodel / Sarı Çirişotu) from Bornova, İzmir - 05.01.2009.

A handsome and a rhizomatous perennial plant (Height: 150cm, Spread: 30cm) with blue-green grass-like leaves and fragrant yellow flowers in spring [Family: Asphodelaceae- Order: Liliales]. These gorgeous star-shaped blooms are carried in long, dense, unbranched spikes up to 20cm long. Its range includes Mediterranean in Southern and Eastern Europe, North Africa and east to the Caucasus from sea level to an altitude of about 1000 m and flowers from March to June. It can form large communities that look very spectacular when in bloom.. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil.
